The Wait Is Over – Google Wave Preview Is Launched

The wait is over. First 100.000 people have received an invitation to test drive the Google Wave preview version today.

The preview comes with 2 waves. The 1st one has a Google widget embedded allowing inviting up to 8 friends to join up. The 2nd has a YouTube video tutorial embedded in it. The video cleverly explains what each pane does (see screen grab below).

My first impression was: “They’ve done it again”. Although these are early days, I must admit that sharing your messages or part of your messages with multiple participants (in real time), ability to add searchable tags and Google widgets, Google Maps, search results and voting polls could make this app pretty useful.

All these features were expected by users since Google has announced Wave back in May 09. However, features which can make it really special are Extensions. The extension gallery includes many cool apps, ranging from video chat experience, conference to Wave Sudoku.
